UPDATE: Southall Black Sisters’ Victory against Ealing Council:On 18 July at the High Court, in a dramatic turn of events, Ealing Council withdrew their case after one and a half days of a hearing which saw their defence rapidly unravelling. From the outset, it became apparent to the presiding judge, Lord Justice Moses and to all those present in the courtroom including the packed public gallery, that Ealing Council was skating on really thin ice in attempting to justify its decision to cut funding to SBS and to commission instead one generic borough wide service on domestic violence on the grounds of ‘equality’ and ‘cohesion’.

The Institute for Volunteering Research (IVR) has been commissioned by Natural England to undertake a piece of research exploringenvironmental volunteering within the North East of England. This research has the potential to be of great value to the environmental sector within the region – as well as informing policy and practice, it is anticipated that the research will lead to a number of funding bids that will bolster the provision of volunteering opportunities within the region. As part of this project, they have created an online survey they would like people to complete – this is relevant for anyone who currently volunteers with environmental organisations, those who used to do so in the past but do not currently, and for those who do not and have never done so. They are particularly interested in ensuring representation from a range of diversity audiences.
The survey can be completed online
here It should take 10-15 minutes and there is also the chance to win a £25 book voucher If you have any problems/queries contact Nick Ockenden, the Research Officer on 0207 5208 931 ornick.ockenden@volunteeringengland.orgYou can also find out more about IVR at www.ivr.org.uk.

The Equality 2025
Committee is an advisory group to the Office for Disability Issues
(ODI). The Committee is made up of individual disabled and Deaf people.
The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) has been set up to help
government deliver on the commitment made in the report, 'Improving the
Life Chances of Disabled People <http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/strategy/work_areas/disability/>'.
The
report says that by 2025, disabled people should have the same
opportunities and choices as non-disabled people and be respected and
included as equal members of society. The ODI acts as a champion of
disabled people within government, working with all departments to help
them better understand and meet the needs and aspirations of disabled
people.
Equality 2025 want to maintain active and effective engagement with
disabled people and will ensure that any advice we give to government is
firmly rooted in the views and opinions of as wide a range of disabled
people as possible. Their work plan covers Independent Living,
Equalities, Human Rights and Engagement.
This is an event particularly for the disabled and Deaf people in the
North East Region. We do hope you
are able to attend. Please pass the invites onto disabled and Deaf

The Lesbian and Gay Foundation would like to invite support for the forthcoming event at Manchester Cathedral which is aimed at welcoming lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people on Thursday 12th June 2008 at 7.30pm. The event is the result of excellent partnership working with The Bishop of Manchester, The Rt Rev Nigel McCulloch and his Advisory Group on Sexuality in offering much needed support to our communities over the last five years. There is much concern within our communities that with the constant presence of negative media headlines, ordinary people with general pastoral needs relating to sexuality will be forgotten.
There is evidence of homophobia in all faiths and an event such as this sends out a very positive message of an inclusive church that is welcoming and open to all. The Bishop of Manchester himself has promised the church and the gay community that he will do his utmost to keep the dialogue open, to
listen and to understand.
We believe that this event is a fantastic way in which we can advance our work together for the benefit of all in our communities to promote tolerance, understanding and break down the barriers which prevent lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people from being fully welcomed by the Anglican Church.
Durham Police Authority is committed to ensuring that County Durham and Darlington have an efficient and effective Police Force and to do this we need to listen to and act upon the views of our local communities. With effect from 1 October 2008 we will have three vacancies for members of the general public to work with us to help shape the way we operate, at least one of those appointed should also be a lay justice.

I have a petition on the Prime Minister's web site to end the postcode lottery in healthcare provision, which causes much despair and anguish to transsexuals, myself included as its a common misconception that hormones affect the voice, facial hair and body hair they don't, though in some cases body hair can reduce it won't all go away.
